Sporthilfe.ch – A New Home for Swiss Elite Sports

Project Overview

The Swiss Sports Aid Foundation commissioned us with the comprehensive relaunch of their web presence sporthilfe.ch. The goal was to merge the existing content and technical logic from teamsuisse.ch with the old sporthilfe.ch website – into a modern, fully editable WordPress instance.

The project was implemented together with Jung von Matt TECH, who were responsible for both the UX/UI design and the overall technical management. The implementation was completed in time for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Challenge

• Merging two systems (teamsuisse.ch & sporthilfe.ch) into a unified, expandable WordPress architecture
• Development of a custom theme with modular WordPress blocks for maximum editorial flexibility
• API integration for live athlete data from the Swiss Olympic dataset
• Seamless integration of existing modules such as the Super-10-Kampf or the Athlete of the Year voting, without media disruption
• Ensuring performance and stability for Olympic traffic

Solution

• Development of a custom WordPress theme with specifically developed blocks based on Gutenberg
• Migration and structured integration of content from sporthilfe.ch and teamsuisse.ch
• Connection of an external API interface in collaboration with a second agency to display dynamic athlete data
• UX-focused integration of interactive modules (voting, event content) without leaving the website
• Close coordination with foundation stakeholders and technical coordination across multiple agency partners

Results

• Fully editable WordPress website, designed to be user-friendly for both editors and visitors
• Technically clean integrated API that displays current athlete data live
• Reuse and modernization of existing functionalities
• Punctual launch for the 2024 Olympics
